Hyper

A hybrid performance boat developed as a novel skin-on-frame structure, combining paulownia wood (280kg/m3) and Dacron textiles (170 gr/m2) into a strong and elegant 12 kg fast and stable projectile.

The form is characterised by the oxbow straight front and the twin tail rear. These are connected by the subtle curve that extends as a straight line backwards. The top surface is defined by maintaining stiffness and agility across the wood/glass fiber surfaces that is occupied by the user, while the bottom is defined by large textile surfaces and a central strip that widens towards the rear holding the mount and insertable fin. Frame cross sections are placed where load is dominant, and internal stringers connect the cross sections, strengthened by dowels. The structure articulate the form of the textile surfaces, providing smooth water flow conditions on the bottom and explicit shades on the top. Mounts for the rowing unit is integral to the wood top wood surface, making the upper shell a stiff and holistic structure servicing varied load and use conditions. The textile surfaces are coated with 3 layers of paint, before the entire surface is sealed with a silk matte lacquer to form a continuous thin protective skin.

The Hyper is advanced through a specifically developed design model, integrating interactive geometric handling with multiple simulations of hydrodynamics, dynamics balances and buoyancy variations for Rowing and Stand Up Paddling.
